Defection rumour: I’m a man of integrity; I’ll not join APC – Onofiok Luke

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Onofiok Luke has debunked claims that he has defected to rival All Progressives Congress(APC).
Luke, who is the frontline candidate for the House of Representative seat in Etinan Federal Constituency has been constantly linked with a move from PDP to APC in recent times.
The rumored defection has gained prominence since erstwhile governor, Godswill Akpabio shockingly moved to APC, leading a few loyalists from PDP to his new party.
However, in a statement made available to the media and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Kufre Okon, Speaker Luke said he’s a man of consistency and integrity who wouldn’t jump ship just like that.
The message specifically encouraged his kinsmen from Etinan Federal Constituency to ignore the rumours. The Speaker maintained that he’s eagerly poised to represent his people at the Green Chambers, in the National Assembly, next year.
Part of the statement reads: “The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke, has been a committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and strongly remains so.
“His supporters in the state, especially those in Etinan Federal Constituency, should discountenance the news of his defection to another party as this is both mischievous and unfounded.
“Speaker Luke, if I must state, belongs in a completely different league. Consistency and integrity matter to him above everything else”.
